The Youth Academy of Alpine Vertigo. A progressive alpine education in character, judgement and responsibility.
Rising Wild does not prepare young people for the mountain alone. It uses the mountain to prepare them for life. Attention, composure, judgement, responsibility, courage and care become observable acts. Growth is held through four inseparable relations: Self, Others, Mountain and Place. Leadership may emerge, but always as service rather than status.
The Alpine Progression moves from Awakening to Exploration, Responsibility, Judgement and Stewardship. Each passage gives greater freedom because competence and care have become reliable. The rope makes interdependence physical; weather and terrain give decisions consequence. Preparation, lived experience and reflection allow awareness to grow without turning the mountain into a classroom.
Awakening begins with attention. Exploration connects curiosity to terrain. Responsibility makes each choice matter to the group. Judgement introduces uncertainty, margin and consequence. Stewardship asks the young person to care for what makes experience possible. These are not age brackets or badges to collect: they are observable passages, entered when readiness becomes reliable.
Safeguarding begins before the mountain. It lives in preparation, listening, qualified supervision, clear boundaries and decisions adapted to the individual. The institution protects without diminishing agency. Young people learn that asking for help, naming doubt and changing a plan are expressions of judgement, not weakness.
Encounters, Chapters and Journeys give the progression a living form. These four existing seasonal experiences are different doors into attention, preparation and contribution. The activity may change with season and readiness; the institutional purpose remains the same.
An outdoor experience centred on the meeting of water, rock and movement. Discuss the kind of outing you are looking for before the site, format and participation requirements are confirmed.
Find rhythm, glide and coordination on Nordic skis. An experience centred on how you want to move and explore, with the setting and practical format discussed before participation.
Discover a winter experience centred on sled dogs and a different way of moving through the landscape. The setting, format and participant arrangements are confirmed for each request.
Discover the Mer de Glace and an introduction to the glacier environment of the Mont-Blanc massif. A mountain experience that connects observation of the landscape with the first foundations of moving on a glacier.
Trust begins before departure. Rising Wild seeks to understand the young person, communicates the intention and professional frame clearly, and explains why terrain or plans may change. Families receive evidence of growth rather than a performance score. Care, safeguarding and qualified judgement are duties of the institution, never promotional promises.
